Ways to Boost the Immune System

The immune system is a very powerful weapon against disease. In fact, its primary role is to ward off unwanted infection so you remain at your best. Each and every day your immune system faces tiny microbes, germs and other particles that it fights off with various levels of success. The more “in shape” you keep your immune system, the better odds it has of keeping you healthy and prepared to do battle.

What steps can you take to keep your immune system ready to do battle?

Get plenty of rest. Nothing will zap your immune system faster than too little zzz’s. Most people are operating on too little sleep. During the nighttime your body repairs itself. Your cells regenerate. If you lose some sleep, catch up on it. Take a cat nap. Give your body and your immune system time to get what it needs.

Eat small and frequently. Too large meals will make your immune system function sluggishly. Make sure you eat small and frequently meals to keep your metabolism fueled, but not running sluggishly.

Eat plenty of green, leafy vegetables. Not only are these healthy, they contain plenty of antioxidants, which are packed with the types of chemicals your immune system needs to stay healthy.

Add fruits to that list of healthy foods. Fruits also contain the micronutrients your immune system needs to stay healthy.

Avoid eating too much sugar. Sugar will clog up your body and disrupt the delicate chemistry of your immune system.

Avoid stress. Take some time to meditate. Too much stress produces chemicals including cortisol that can zap your adrenals and make you more prone to infection. Chronic stress can lead to a host of serious health problems, including cardiovascular health problems.

Exercise regularly. Regularly exercise helps your body remain fit, which is important for boosting your overall immunity.
